Anna Ticho is one of Israel’s best-known and most beloved artists. Her personal imprint is readily identifiable – whether it be her firm brushstroke, gentle, loving gaze, delicate touch, or fascination with the local landscape and people. Born in Brno, Moravia, she completed her education in turn-of-the-century Vienna and was deeply influenced by its art scene. In 1912, at the age of eighteen, she arrived in Jerusalem and married her cousin, the ophthalmologist Dr. Albert (Avraham) Ticho, going on to become a central figure in Jerusalem’s cultural life. In 1980, shortly before her death, she was awarded the prestigious Israel Prize, and the judges praised her capacity to constantly renew herself, characterizing the quality of her prolific and versatile output as timeless rather than depending on any particular trend. The large-format exhibition catalogue contains more than 100 full-color images, as well as a biography, an in-depth analysis of her art, and curatorial texts about some of her major works.
