A retrospective of the oeuvre of internationally acclaimed, multidisciplinary French artist Christian Boltanski, presented at the Museum in 2018. Dealing with individual and universal aspects of memory, and according a special place to the memory of the Holocaust, his work is of particular relevance in Israel, where the relationship between history, memory, and identity remains a burning concern. The exhibition catalogue, whose design beautifully matches the tenor of its subject matter, contains essays by curator-in-charge Mira Lapidot of the Israel Museum and guest curator Laurence Sigal of Paris and a thought-provoking conversation between David Grossman and the artist. A rich album of full-page photographs powerfully conveys the intense and uniquely recognizable atmosphere of Boltanski’s work.
