The decoration on this square-shaped glass plate is modeled on the royal seal of Crusader King Baldwin IV, ruler of Jerusalem from 1174 to 1185. On the seal, the king is depicted seated on a throne, holding a cross-topped globe in one hand and an elongated cross-topped staff in the other. Surrounding the decoration is a Latin inscription reading “Baldwin, by the grace of God King of Jerusalem.”
