- This Hanukkah lamp was inspired by some of the earliest Hanukkah lamps cast in metal in Spain and southern Italy. The ornate finial indicates that the lamps were meant to be hung on the wall. The early models were triangular in shape and their backplate was adorned with a symmetrical vegetal pattern. Over time this prototype evolved and its decorative design became richer and more elaborate. The original items on which this Hanukkah lamp is based are in the collection of Dr. Albert Ticho, Jerusalem, in the Israel Museum; and the Stieglitz Collection, donated to the Museum with the contribution of Erica and Ludwig Jesselson, New York, to American Friends of the Israel MuseumSHOW MORE
