Based on a 17th-century model crafted in the Estonian city of Narva, this partly gilt silver cup was intended for use on Jewish holidays: engraved around its upper edge is the biblical verse “Thus Moses declared to the people of Israel the appointed feasts of the Lord” (Leviticus 23:44), which is recited as part of the holiday blessing. Engraved beneath the inscription are figures holding holiday symbols, such as a shofar for Rosh Hashanah or a palm frond for Sukkot.
The original item is in the Israel Museum collection.
