This small book takes the reader on a long journey tracing the development of the Book of Books through the treasures displayed in the Shrine of the Book – from the earliest extant manuscripts of the Bible, found in the Judean Desert, through the Dead Sea sect to which these manuscripts are attributed, to the amazing story of the Aleppo Codex, which was copied about 1,000 years ago in Tiberias and is considered the most accurate manuscript of the Hebrew Bible and the closest to the biblical text we possess today. The final chapter of the book discusses the architecture and symbolism of the Shrine’s structure – a landmark of modernism designed by Armand Bartos and Frederick Kiesler – and how these relate to the priceless treasure it houses.
