The Passover Seder table is perhaps the most elegant and lively of Jewish ritual settings. This Seder plate will make it more festive still, its delicate blue motifs gracing a white background in the style of Chinese porcelain ware. The slightly recessed Star of David at the center of the plate is surrounded by six heart-shaped recesses meant to contain the shallow bowls holding the ritual foods of the Seder meal. Traditionally, the center of the plate is decorated with a Star of David or inscribed with the word Pesah (Passover).
The original plate is in the collection of the Jewish Museum in Prague, which holds one of the largest Judaica collections in the world. During World War II, the Nazi occupiers filled the museum with Judaica from private collections and Jewish organizations throughout Europe. They catalogued each and every item, supposedly with the aim of returning it to its owners, deported to concentration camps, upon their “homecoming.”
Matching bowls also available for purchase.
